Many media companies including newspaper, magazines and cable companies which traditionally have owned the consumer relationship have mastered the basics of CRM. However, many media and entertainment companies - TV networks, movie studios and music companies – have little prior experience providing content directly to consumers. Customer Profitability Analytics
Measuring customer profitability seems obvious, but in practice is far from it. Understanding the net present value of customer contribution over that customer’s lifetime after capturing all customer acquisition costs is often a complex task. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles do not necessary help because they are not intended to focus on the cash on cash return from the addition of new customers and subscribers.
In the early days of telecom start-ups FTI encountered companies which eroded enterprise value with each new subscriber they added because the customer acquisition costs and/or the customer attrition rates were so high.
