David Lipsey is the Managing Director for FTI’s Media & Entertainment practice and is based in Washington, DC.  Mr. Lipsey has over 25 years of experience in the diversified media and entertainment sectors, including newspapers, magazines, trade and technical publishing, commercial printing, syndication services, cable, broadcast and studio work.  He joined FTI in 2008 and is an active participant in a wide range of media engagements.  With his extensive content industry background, he has worked across the sector on diverse advertising, physical and digital distribution projects, digital asset and enterprise content management, content governance and content monetization strategies and projects.  He is widely known as an innovative thought leader and speaker on contemporary content issues.

During the course of his career, Mr. Lipsey has been engaged with complex organizational and software / technology projects for numerous media companies.  These have included newspaper management projects at The New York Times, McClatchy, Scripps, The Washington Post, Thomson and many others.  His digital asset management and digital content client experience includes NBC Universal, HBO, Time Inc., Random House, Discovery, Scholastic, WNET, WGBH, CMP Media, Fox, Meredith, Simon & Schuster, Hachette Book Group, New Line Cinema, Turner Broadcasting, CanWest, DreamWorks, Disney Publishing Worldwide, Take Two Interactive and many business sector companies concerned with digital content, such as General Motors, Genzyme and Herman Miller.

Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Lipsey was the Industry Principal for Media & Entertainment at SAP.   He was responsible for supporting the sector development with a North American portfolio of all media industries.  His initiatives focused on connecting SAP’s traditional ERP penetration in the media sector to content specific applications in digital distribution, intellectual property management, innovations in on-line and in-print advertising, as well as data governance issues for content companies.  Mr. Lipsey was the author of several white papers on contemporary publishing and advertising issues at SAP, and spoke extensively at conference and other events on media issues.

Before joining SAP, Mr. Lipsey was one of the founders of Artesia Technologies, a highly regarded provider of digital asset management software (now a division of Open Text).  Mr. Lipsey contributed directly to much of the original “ground level” understanding of the importance of digital content.  He was the Vice President for Media & Entertainment at Artesia.

Before Artesia, Mr. Lipsey began his media career on work with New York Times on the roll-out of the NYT National Edition as a trainer.  Subsequently he joined Publishing Business Systems (recently acquired by DTI Inc.), a leading provider of newspaper circulation, advertising, accounting and other business software.  Prior to leaving for Artesia, he was the Vice President for Strategic Business Development, responsible for the company’s wide-ranging newspaper group relationships.
