FTI IntelligenceFTI Intelligence released its Supply Side Analysis, part one of its Global Wind Market Update – Demand & Supply 2017 report. According to the supply side data collected, 21,691 wind turbines were installed globally in 2017 with a combined capacity of 52,150 MW. The 21,691 wind turbines were produced by 46 wind turbine manufacturers in 2017, 19 of which are from China.

Vestas held the title as the world’s largest turbine supplier in 2017. Siemens Gamesa ranked second, but the company increased its global market share in 2017 more than any other company. In addition, it replaced Vestas as the most globalised supplier in 2017 and it has a wide geographic spread of turbine installations in 35 countries for 2017. Chinese tier one wind turbine suppliers retained or moved up their positions last year, but the rest of Chinese suppliers in FTI Intelligence's top 15 wind turbine OEMs ranking list lost market share in 2017 primarily due to a 16% drop in China's wind power installations.

In the offshore wind section, Siemens Gamesa maintained its market leadership in 2017, followed by MHI Vestas and China’s Sewind.
