Amy Gonce is a managing director in the FTI Consulting Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice and is based in Washington, DC. Ms. Gonce has over nineteen years of experience in forensic accounting investigation and analysis, technical accounting and review of internal controls, financial and operational modeling, and project management and has performed a great deal of work in the healthcare, financial services and software industries. She has worked with large and small organizations in various industries in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Gonce’s most notable clients include ArthroCare, the Trustee for Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, Symmetry Medical, The Mills Corporation, Dell, WebMD, Freddie Mac, and a “Big Four” Accounting Firm.
Ms. Gonce’s work has been comprised of forensic accounting projects including internal investigations, Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement actions, Department of Justice investigations, technical accounting support and review, and expert witness work including the determination of causation and calculation of damages. Through those engagements, Ms. Gonce has dealt with technical accounting issues including revenue recognition (SAB 104, SOP 97-2, Bill and Hold sales, EITF 01-9), judgmental reserves, accounting for contingencies, assessing materiality, treatment of accounting changes, assessment of internal controls and auditors’ responsibilities. Ms. Gonce has also had extensive experience in managing the electronic evidence aspect of her forensic work to maximize efficiency and discovery of potential issues. Ms. Gonce excels at simplifying and translating the technical aspects of accounting and presenting them in understandable terms to attorneys and company management. Results of her work have served as exhibits in Securities and Exchange Commission matters, bench trials and arbitration panels. During the course of her work, Ms. Gonce has appeared before the SEC, Committees of the House and Senate, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. District Attorney’s office and the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2002, Ms. Gonce was a senior manager in Arthur Andersen’s Southeast Region consulting practice. She joined the practice in 1992 as an auditor in their audit and business advisory practice.
Ms. Gonce has served as a testifying expert witness in court as well as participated as a mock expert witness in various sessions through the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Ms. Gonce has made presentations at the national and state chapters of Healthcare Financial Management Association on advanced cost management concepts. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She co-authored the article, “The Value of eCommerce in the Healthcare Supply Chain: An Industry Report” published in 2001.
Ms. Gonce holds a B.S. in business and management from the University of Maryland, College Park.
