David M. Johnson serves as FTI Consulting’s Chief Financial Officer and is based out of the Company’s executive headquarters in Washington, D.C. Mr. Johnson is responsible for all finance functions and works with the firm’s Executive Committee to develop and execute on acquisitions and other growth strategies.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Johnson served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Athene Holding Ltd., a Bermuda headquartered issuer and reinsurer of fixed annuities sponsored by Apollo Global Management. Prior to Athene, Mr. Johnson worked independently, including service as a senior advisor to an independent evaluation requested by the White House of $24 billion in Department of Energy sponsored loans and loan guarantees.
From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Johnson served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Federal National Mortgage Association (“Fannie Mae”), a role he was asked to assume two months after Fannie Mae was placed in government conservatorship. From 2001 to 2008, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., where he was ultimately responsible for all finance activities, internal audit and investigations, central information technology services, business resiliency, enterprise risk management and procurement. From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Johnson served as Chief Financial Officer of Cendant Corporation, which he joined shortly after the discovery of major accounting fraud in one half of the newly formed company. Mr. Johnson began his career in investment banking at Merrill Lynch, where he spent 12 years, including two years as Co-Chief Operating Officer of Merrill Lynch's Global Investment Banking Division.
From 2004 to 2008, Mr. Johnson was ranked as one of America’s leading Chief Financial Officers by Institutional Investor. In 2007, under Mr. Johnson’s leadership, Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. received IR Magazine’s award for best disclosure policy in the United States. In 2006, Institutional Investor’s poll of buy-side and sell-side analysts ranked Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.’s investor relations efforts as the number one in their industry. Lastly, in January 2000, CFO Magazine named Mr. Johnson one of the leading United States Chief Financial Officers under age 40.
Mr. Johnson received his undergraduate degree, with honors, from Harvard University and his Master of Arts in Economics from Yale University.
