Liz Shanahan is Global Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences in the Strategic Communications practice of FTI Consulting. She is based in London.
Experience
Ms. Shanahan has nearly two decades of experience in healthcare and life science communications, with exceptional knowledge of the needs of healthcare organisations ranging in size from major multi-national pharmaceutical and industry organisations to biotechnology start-up and healthcare technology ventures. She is among the sector’s most experienced counsels, advising many of the world’s leading healthcare companies, providers and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs).
Liz’s boardroom-to-brand expertise covers reputation management, corporate restructurings, brand communications, medical education, CSR, and public affairs & policy. She has led numerous global communications programmes for companies including Pfizer, Actelion, Nycomed, GSK, Spire, Boots, and Covance.
Adept at building sustained coalitions, she has also led complex multi-dimensional initiatives for organisations like the NHS and the World Health Organisation. Prior to joining FTI, Liz established Santé Communications, one of the first specialist health PR consultancies. In 2007, Santé joined the FD network. Liz began her career at Merck & Co. Inc. and then worked for a number of healthcare agencies, including Ogilvy and Ketchum, where she managed the European Healthcare Unit.
Liz studied Computer Science and Maths at University College Cork, and she is a board member of the Irish International Business Network. She is also a member of the Global Irish Network, representing Irish business leaders from around the world, who are advising the Irish Government and state agencies during the current economic crisis.
