Mike Buchanan is a senior managing director in the Economic Consulting segment and is based in Dallas. Mike is also the practice leader of the Labor and Employment group and has significant experience in wage and hour matters. He specializes in economic and statistical analysis to clients involved in litigation, arbitration, mediation and other contexts where parties are engaged in complex business disputes.
Experience
Mike is an applied econometrician and has significant experience in dispute matters and in dealing with large data sets, statistical modeling and forecasting. He has prepared economic and statistical analyses and testified for numerous Fortune 500 corporate clients on economic and statistical questions involving labor issues, lost profit, IP and antitrust matters. Mike has lectured at Southern Methodist University on many of these same topics.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Inc., Mike was a Director with KPMG LLP’s Forensic Services practice. Mike also was with Mary Kay Inc. for five years as an applied econometrician. His responsibilities included managing the functions of forecasting, statistical modeling of compensation analysis, promotional events, pricing analysis, new product launches, business analysis and data control.
He has also prepared and participated in salary negotiations for professional athletes. He has performed studies on pay and performance and lectured at Southern Methodist University on the same topic. He has participated in marketing plans and endorsement income opportunities for athletes. Mr. Buchanan has worked for the NFL, NFL Properties, Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys in litigation matters.
Mr. Buchanan’s engagement experience has included testifying at trial, deposition and through mediation as an expert witness. His industry experience has included automotive, biotechnology, cosmetic, computer hardware and software, consumer products, electronics, financial institutions, hospitality, medical products, office equipment, pharmaceuticals, real estate, sports, telecommunications and transportation. Mr. Buchanan’s cases have involved patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright infringement, antitrust, false advertising, breach of contract and other types of business disputes.
Mr. Buchanan received his B.S. in economics with financial applications and an M.A. in applied economics from Southern Methodist University.
