Mr. Steven A. Huyghe is the Head of Construction Solutions Asia in the FTI Consulting Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment and is based in Hong Kong. He is responsible for the planning and direction of FTI Consulting Construction Solutions activities in Asia with offices located in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo. Mr. Huyghe has extensive experience in general contracting, construction management, and dispute resolution. He is recognized internationally as a leader in assisting owners, contractors, designers, and counsel with providing project advisory services on complex construction projects and also projects in distress or litigation.
Experience
Prior to joinin g FTI Consulting, Mr. Huyghe spent 23 years as a General Contractor responsible for all phases of construction from estimating, scheduling through project execution. He has constructed numerous industrial facilities such as oil refineries, uranium recovery mines, chemical plants, multiple wastewater and water treatment facilities and large infrastructure projects.
With regard to claims, litigation, and testimony, Mr. Huyghe has been in this field now for over 22 years and is known internationally in the construction sector for his ability to establish and then demonstrate the impact of delay, disruption, lost productivity, work changes, and damages. He has been called upon to provide sole testimony on disruption, labor productivity, and construction means and methods for projects such as EPC contracts dealing with mining, oil, power, petrochemical, water and wastewater, gas processing, tunneling, and high-rise construction. He has testified in ICC Arbitrations, State and Federal Courts, Board of Contract Appeals and numerous mediations.
Mr. Huyghe has been equally involved in providing Project Advisory Services (PAS) which have helped Owners in the pre-development stages throughout the course of construction, mitigating delays and disruptions, and managing project costs. These PAS services have been implemented successfully in both domestic and international construction endeavors
Mr. Huyghe often lectures and conducts training programs for contractors, municipalities, and owners on a variety of construction management topics, such as claims mitigation. He has spoken at numerous seminars and conferences worldwide and is an established author of articles for construction-related publications.
Professional Experience
- Constructed infrastructure projects, industrial process facilities, uranium recovery mines, oil, chemical, and environmental projects in earlier positions as: Draftsman, Field Layout Engineer, Project Engineer, Estimator, CPM department lead, Superintendent, Project Manager, and Construction Manager.
- As President of a large construction company, he provided and was responsible for construction operations, including estimating, scheduling, contract negotiations, labor negotiations and all field operations.
- Provided leadership and direction to project teams and to clients as Chief Executive Officer and Partner of a construction management firm.
- Achieved international recognition in the construction sector for providing Project Advisory Services and as an expert in testifying to labor productivity, schedule analysis, delay, disruption and impact evaluation, damages, construction contracts, project management, and project costs.
- Has analyzed, and evaluated major environmental, infrastructure, and industrial construction projects and facilitated the settlement of ongoing disputes.
- Lectured and hosted seminars, and provided training to large owners, contractors, universities, and clients on topics such as construction management, dispute resolution, and claims mitigation.
