Barry Brandon is a Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting, and is based in Washington, DC. He also is part of the segment’s government affairs & lobbying practice. Mr. Brandon is focused on bringing FTI Consulting’s large and diverse service offering to American Indian tribes’ businesses and governments.

For more than 20 years, Mr. Brandon has served at the intersection of Native American business and public policy. Working as both a senior federal official and in the private sector, Mr. Brandon has represented American Indian tribes and businesses at both the state and national levels on issues of law, policy, risk management, economic development, taxation and regulatory compliance.

Prior to his role at FTI Consulting, Mr. Brandon served as president of Hvmken Consulting, providing a broad range of consulting services to a diverse client base that included federally recognized Indian tribes, a national financial services association, international and national developers, investors and manufacturers. Mr. Brandon also served as senior vice-president and general counsel to the Seneca Gaming Corporation, and was a partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, where he was a founding member of the firm’s American Indian Law and Policy Practice Group. Mr. Brandon’s public sector experience includes work as chief of staff and general counsel at the National Indian Gaming Commission, and deputy director at the United States Department of the Interior, serving in the Secretary’s Indian Water Rights Office.

Mr. Brandon currently serves on the board of directors at WNED/WBFO Buffalo*Toronto, a leading bi-national public broadcasting organization.  He also serves as chair of the strategic planning committee on the board of directors of Canterbury Woods, a premium retirement community in New York. 

Mr. Brandon is a former member of the Native American Bar Association, and a founding member of the Native American Bar Association of Washington, DC.  He holds a B.A. in political science from Western Washington University, and a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law. Mr. Brandon is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and a descendent of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
