David Toomey is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance/Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting and is based in Brisbane, Australia.
Mr Toomey is a highly skilled investment professional with global investment experience in the private equity, structured finance and portfolio analysis disciplines. He has more than 17 years’ experience in the financial services industry in the U.S., Europe and Australia. He has worked extensively in direct investment roles on both the equity and debt side of transactions. Transactions worked on include corporations and infrastructure projects across a range of regions and industries. Transaction sizes ranged between US$5 million to US$20 billion.
Mr Toomey spent six years working in Amsterdam for AlpInvest Partners (the largest private equity manager in the world with €37 billion under management). Whilst undertaking private equity and mezzanine investments at AlpInvest, Mr. Toomey was involved with approximately 80 investments working alongside international private equity firms including Carlyle, KKR, TPG, Apollo, Silver Lake, Blackstone and Permira.
Mr. Toomey’s debt and project finance experience was gained while working as an associate director at Suncorp for the Project & Structured Finance department in Brisbane.
Mr Toomey was a co-founder and director of Peli Capital, where he participated in numerous engagements providing equity transaction management and due diligence services as well as investment fund structuring and capital raising.
Developing holistic solutions by applying a diverse set of disciplines, (e.g. investment, accounting, debt, equity, project management, tax, law) is a hallmark of Mr. Toomey’s background. In addition to working across multiple disciplines, he has sought new career challenges in order to gain an inherent understanding of different stakeholder perspectives.
Mr. Toomey is able to deliver value-added solutions by using the practical experience he has gained via investing through different market cycles. The many lessons he has learned from his hands on experience ensures he takes risk identification seriously.
Mr. Toomey has experience structuring ‘bankable’ transactions. To ensure a successful transaction, risk and reward needs to be shared amongst the stakeholders, as well as alignment of commercial principals and mitigation of identified risks.
