Dr. James Dimech-DeBono is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting’s London office. Dr. Dimech-DeBono works in the Business Valuation practice within the Economic and Financial Consulting segment and is considered an expert in complex asset valuation and risk management. Dr. Dimech-DeBono is also a member of the Steering Committee of the CQF Institute. He regularly contributes to a number of industry journals on matters relating to valuation and risk management. Dr. Dimech-DeBono served as a member on the International Valuations Standards Committee expert group on the valuation of financial instruments, CVA and DVA and also advised the Board of the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) on matters relating to valuation and policy.

Dr. Dimech-DeBono was formerly a Partner heading Complex Asset Valuation & Advisory Services at Grant Thornton. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, he was a Partner in KPMG’s Financial Risk Management Services in London focussing on heading Valuation Services for Financial Services clients. During this period he was also seconded to a major European investment bank as their Head of Independent price Verification (IPV).

Prior to KPMG, he was a Managing Director at Duff & Phelps in Europe and he led the International Financial Engineering practice advising banks and funds on the valuation of complex and illiquid assets including portfolios of derivatives and asset-backed securities.

Prior to that, Dr. Dimech-DeBono was a Director in Valuation Advisory Services at Ernst & Young in London where he led the quantitative practice in Valuation Advisory Services.

Dr. Dimech-DeBono has over 25 years’ advisory experience and his clients included banking institutions, investment managers and insurance companies. He also advised other corporates and regulators in the areas of valuation, risk management and hedging. In 2009 he was appointed valuation expert to the EC DG Competition leading a team to advise the EC on the implementation of the Asset Relief Programme for the troubled European banks.

During 2014, he was involved in a number of assignments which included the provision of advisory services to a number of regulators across the Eurozone in relation to the ECB’s Asset Quality Review for banks.

Dr. Dimech-DeBono has a strong academic background in quantitative financial economics, specialising in performance and risk management as well as asset pricing models.
