Duane Lohn is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting, based in New York City and Phoenix, Arizona. He co-heads the Global Risk Management practice, a unit of the Global Insurance Services practice. Mr. Lohn is considered an expert in operational resilience and recovery, governance, cyber, compliance and risk management.
For the past 12 years, Mr. Lohn has provided resiliency assessment and planning solutions to large global and mid-market private sector organizations and public sector entities concerned with compliance, operational risks, disruptions and crises – helping them mature their emergency and crisis management, business continuity, IT disaster recovery, and cybersecurity strategies and implementations.
Mr. Lohn was co-founder and Principal of Risk Solutions International (RSI), a leading operational risk management technology, consulting and advisory firm. RSI projects were conducted over 10 years in 23 states and overseas for Fortune 500 and mid-market companies in numerous industry sectors, airports, institutions of higher education, large public school districts, federal and state government agencies, and not-for-profits. RSI was acquired by FTI Consulting in 2013, and now operates as the company’s Global Risk Management practice.
As part of their governance, compliance and risk management frameworks, clients call on Mr. Lohn to help independently assess the adequacy and maturity of their organizational approach to operational resilience. This work includes review of clients’ preparedness for disruptive events and crises, and speaks to their enterprise business continuity management (BCM) programs – business continuity planning (BCP), IT disaster recovery planning (DRP), cybersecurity planning, emergency management, and crisis management and communications. Mr. Lohn leads teams that address these client challenges at organizations that recognize gaps between their readiness, and the operational risks they increasingly face and the vulnerabilities built into their organizations, systems and processes.
Mr. Lohn is considered a leading expert on operational and emergency preparedness and planning at critical infrastructure installations such as airports and water utilities. He was the program administrator of teams that were engaged by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) – a part of the National Academy of Sciences – to design custom software and training to help U.S. airports develop site-specific business continuity plans and airport emergency plans that align with government guidance, standards, and best practices.
Cybersecurity is of special interest and importance to Mr. Lohn - especially how implementation of BCP, DRP and ERM programs can materially reduce per capita cost of data breaches by reducing the costs of data loss and operational downtime. Mr. Lohn co-leads the practice’s work in cybersecurity with a portfolio of pre-breach and post-breach services including independent third party current state assessments, policy assessments, vulnerability remediation plans, and cyber incident response plans. He works with FTI colleagues who provide post-breach services in cyber forensic investigations and litigation support, data analytics, media messaging and counter-narratives, crisis management and reputation recovery.
