Lisa Murtha is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Philadelphia. Ms. Murtha is part of the Health Solutions practice. Ms. Murtha has over 27 years of experience working on complex clinical research and healthcare compliance issues. She focuses her practice in corporate ethics and compliance programs, and in both sponsor and research site clinical research compliance which includes Physician Sunshine Act compliance, aggregate/promo spend issues, off-label use issues, issues related to payments to health care professionals, human subject protections, effort reporting/grant accounting, scientific misconduct, conflicts of interest, internal auditing and monitoring, and clinical trial billing and process improvement. Ms. Murtha's clients include large and small hospitals and health systems and academic medical centers as well as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Ms. Murtha also provides guidance regarding revenue cycle work, billing and coding issues, internal investigations, compliance program effectiveness, corporate governance/ethics, and HIPAA/HITECH/Omnibus Rule related matters.
Prior to joining FTI, she was a partner in the Healthcare and Life Sciences practice at Dentons US LLP. Prior to joining Dentons in 2009, she served as the practice leader for the clinical research and compliance practice for Huron Consulting Group, and Vice President of Audit, Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer for The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the Stokes Research Institute, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Practice Association. Ms. Murtha also served as a Managing Director for KPMG LLP’s New York based health care fraud and compliance practice and as a Senior Manager for Deloitte and Touche’s compliance practice where she assisted her clients with the development and implementation of comprehensive corporate compliance programs, clinical research compliance programs, complex reimbursement and other internal investigations and in supervising Independent Review Organization projects for clients under Corporate Integrity Agreements with the government.
Ms. Murtha is a founding Board Member and former officer of the Health Care Compliance Association and the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics. Prior to her consulting career, Ms. Murtha worked as the Chief Compliance Officer for the University of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania Health System, and prior to that as the Corporate Compliance Director for Pennsylvania Blue Shield (focusing primarily on Medicare Carrier Contract Compliance).
Ms. Murtha holds her J.D. from Dickinson School of Law and her B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University.
