Gareth Crooks is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in London. Mr. Crooks is a member of the European Tax Advisory practice. He specialises in tax matters that impact the hospitality and leisure and real estate industries.
Mr. Crooks provides both tax advisory and tax reporting services to his clients. His tax advisory experience includes the management of UK and international teams in dealing with the direct, indirect and transfer taxes on transaction related matters. This includes the structuring of acquisitions, due diligence requirements, financing and refinancing considerations, exit planning and tax forecasting.
Mr. Crooks tax reporting experience includes work on tax accruals under various GAAPs, including the transition process between GAAPs, and corporation tax, non-resident landlord income tax and UK personal tax filing obligations.
Recent examples of Mr. Crooks’ experience include advising on an operational, financial and equity restructuring of a leading hotel group, a pre-sale financial restructuring and subsequent sale of an interest in a luxury London hotel and a ‘non-core’ disposal program for a UK hotel/conference centre group. He managed the restructuring process of a multi-divisional UK house builder, structured the acquisition of an art-deco bank and its subsequent redevelopment to a hotel, and led the group rationalisation process for a UK based budget hotel group with an international presence.
In addition, Mr. Crooks has advised on the sale of an international luxury hotel group and the international expansion of a boutique hotel chain, as well as advised on a Pan-European deal structuring relating to a number of acquisitions and disposals of a private equity real estate fund.
Mr. Crooks holds a B.A. in Education and Biological Sciences (First-Class) from the University of Cambridge. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
