Garrett M. Wilson

Garrett M. Wilson provides expert and consulting services to assist attorneys, corporations and individuals with financial issues in a myriad of industries. Mr. Wilson’s engagements often relate to business transactions, financial disputes or compliance activities. His practice focuses on commercial or economic damage reports, business or intellectual property valuations, financial opinions and financial forensic investigations. He has more than 20 years of experience including as a chief investment officer, portfolio manager, financial analyst, business advisor, consultant and expert witness.

Mr. Wilson’s work in FTI Consulting’s Dispute Advisory Services practice frequently involves damage quantifications (e.g., out-of-pocket costs, lost profits, lost wages, diminution in business value, benefit of the bargain, rescission), fairness or solvency opinions, business or intellectual property valuations, solvency testing and financial forensics. The matters in which he is engaged as a consultant or expert often involve allegations of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, theft, misappropriation, intellectual property infringement, legal malpractice, wrongful death/termination, investment suitability, fraudulent conveyance, alter ego and shareholder oppression.

Mr. Wilson’s engagements also commonly relate to M&A transaction disputes (e.g., securities class actions, appraisal rights, entire fairness, proxy claims, post-transaction disputes), shareholder buyouts, marital dissolutions, employee stock ownership plans (“ESOPs”), intellectual property licensing, imminent domain or takings, fair value reporting (e.g., purchase price allocations, impairment testing) and 409a/gift/estate tax compliance. His work serves a variety of client needs, including for adversarial proceedings (e.g., mediation, domestic or international arbitration, state or federal court), corporate planning or M&A transaction due diligence and accounting/regulatory/tax compliance.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Wilson worked in litigation consulting, middle market investment banking and institutional investment management at various firms. He also previously co-founded and served as president and chief investment officer for a Los Angeles-based registered investment advisor with more than $600 million in assets under management.

Mr. Wilson began his post-collegiate professional career in Seattle working as an analyst and portfolio manager directly under the chief investment officer at Cascade Investment, LLC as one of a handful of investment professionals managing more than $50 billion for Bill Gates and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Prior to graduating summa cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in 2003, he served as president of the Claremont Accounting Association.
