Gregory N. Phelps is a Managing Director in the FTI Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment and is based in Los Angeles. Mr. Phelps has over 12 years of professional experience providing dispute and litigation consulting services to clients in a variety of industries. He specializes in assisting legal counsel with complex litigation analysis and fraud investigative services in connection with internal investigations and SEC related investigations.

Mr. Phelps’ advisory experiences encompass the entire litigation process including discovery, damage analysis, preparation of expert reports, creating demonstrative evidence and preparation of experts for deposition and trial testimony. Engagements that Mr. Phelps has directed or assisted have involved performing damage analysis involving lost sales, incremental profits, business interruption, and prejudgment interest. One of his most notable cases involved a recovery of over $200 million in a breach of contract lawsuit against the US government on behalf of a failed savings and loan.

Mr. Phelps’ fraud investigation engagements include internal investigations on behalf of Board of Directors, Audit Committees, General Counsel and non-management equity partners. His engagements have also involved tracing funds between accounts and related entities, as well as internal investigations in connection with restatements of financial results. One of his most significant internal investigations involved an SEC registrant whose restatement exceeded $100 million related to the company’s stock option granting procedures.

Matters Mr. Phelps has worked on have involved companies in industries including computer software, financial services, gaming, health care, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail and non-profit administration.

Prior to joining FTI in 2006, Mr. Phelps spent 11 years in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Advisory Services practice and was a director in the firm’s Dispute Analysis and Investigations group. Mr. Phelps began his career as an underwriter for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, specializing in Directors and Officers Liability, Fiduciary Liability and Commercial Crime.

Mr. Phelps received an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from the University of Southern California and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
