James Wolf is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Charlotte. He is a member of the Office of the CFO Solutions practice within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Mr. Wolf has more than 15 years of experience working alongside CFOs and their teams through transformative situations such as carve-out transactions, asset sales, equity swaps and financial buyouts. Since 2006, Mr. Wolf has led or supported more than 40 engagements involving all aspects of Fortune 500 and middle market finance departments, including running the daily accounting, financial planning and analysis (“FP&A”), and treasury functions as well as developing and implementing processes, hiring and training personnel. Mr. Wolf has led project teams and worked with equity sponsors, investment bankers, lenders and other stakeholders on initial public offerings (“IPO’s”), asset sale, recapitalization and refinancing transactions, as well as the execution of leveraging data analytics to execute financial and operational performance improvement plans.
He has served clients and key stakeholders in many industries, including consumer products, retail, food and agriculture, government contracting and the not-for-profit sector.
Mr. Wolf has many years of experience working with a diverse set of clients in various situations. These experiences include working alongside the CFO, VP of Finance, Treasurer and the Equity Sponsor for a global defense support service provider, preparing a fully integrated business plan, financial forecast and weekly liquidity cash forecast for a government contractor with nine separate international operating units. His work enhanced the company’s financial and operational planning and resource allocation processes given the unfavorable impact of sequestration and the withdrawal of troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Wolf also worked with the CFO, Treasurer, and finance team of an employee-owned construction and environmental engineering firm without a well-defined finance function. Mr. Wolf created the tools and processes needed for an integrated 12-month financial and cash forecast, assisting the company in executing a refinancing transaction.
In addition, Mr. Wolf developed a comprehensive financial and operational assessment for a specialty consumer products manufacturer, providing a CFO and newly hired interim CEO with a roadmap identifying opportunities to quickly improve profitability. Mr. Wolf identified over $9 million in annualized, recurring cost savings related to customer optimization, SKU management as well as potential operational efficiencies targeted to optimize plant efficiency and improve the company’s sales and operating planning (S&OP) process. Mr. Wolf also worked for the CFO of a Fortune 500 company to successfully execute the public company spin-off of its second largest division. He also took a leading role creating the finance function for a NYSE traded public company. In addition, he set up transition service agreements establishing a baseline operating structure for the newly formed company.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Wolf worked for five years in the Global Corporate and Investment Banking divisions at Morgan Stanley and Bank of America to streamline efficiencies in global trading platforms and develop controls to assess, quantify and mitigate market, credit and operational risks. In addition, Mr. Wolf contracted with senior management at Schering-Plough, a pharmaceutical firm, and Fisher Scientific International, a scientific supplies manufacturer and distributor, to develop corporate strategy and to assist with related acquisitions and divestitures.
Mr. Wolf holds a B.S.B.A in Finance and MIS from Villanova University and an M.B.A. with concentrations in Finance and Investment Management from The University of North Carolina.
