Joe Milan is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Seattle, WA. Mr. Milan is in the Technology segment and leads the user experience group within the Research and Development practice. He is an expert in designing data-rich software that is highly intuitive and easy to use.

As part of the user experience group, Mr. Milan has lead efforts to revamp the user interface for FTI Technology’s Ringtail e-discovery software. Ringtail’s new interface, combined with its advanced analytics capabilities, has garnered numerous honors from the legal and IT industries, including selection by The National Law Journal, The Legal Intelligencer, The Recorder and KMWorld. FTI Technology was also included in the ‘Leaders’ quadrant of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for E-Discovery Software report (Jie Zhang, Garth Landers, May 18, 2015), and Gartner gave Ringtail the highest product score for the Legal Review Use Case in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for E-Discovery report (Jie Zhang, Garth Landers, October 6, 2015).

Prior to joining FTI Technology in 2011, Mr. Milan was a User Experience Designer for Microsoft with increasing levels of seniority. At Microsoft he designed the first iteration of SQL Azure (now Microsoft Azure) and its visualization-based enterprise tools. He is the inventor on a patent for "deterministic visual indication of user data context" with more patent applications pending, and speaks regularly on software design for data-rich environments.

Mr. Milan also advises startups about product direction, especially as it pertains to user-focused visualizations, analytics, and highly complex cloud products. His particular focus is mentoring new designers on translating user-centered design into practical and accessible applications.
