Khaled Haram is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. He is a member of the Retail & Consumer Products practice. With more than 25 years of combined industry and advisory experience, Mr. Haram brings an execution-focused perspective to his clients by leveraging his prior operator roles for private equity firms and c-suite appointments at leading companies in a range of industries, including consumer goods, retail and business services.
Mr. Haram frequently serves as an advisor to private equity and financial sponsors, where he helps his clients and their portfolio companies in performing due diligence on carve-outs, extracting deal value through post-merger integration, executing operating and profitability improvement initiatives and managing and implementing synergy realization projects.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Haram was a Managing Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”), focusing on the retail and consumer industry with leading private equity firms and global companies.
Before PwC, Mr. Haram was President and COO at a mid-market, publicly traded company in the LED lighting industry responsible for finance, information technology (“IT”), human resources (“HR”), operations, and global sourcing. He led the company’s turnaround through a reduction in operating expenses, reduction in cost of goods through strategic sourcing, and improvement in assembly through lean six sigma.
Before that, Mr. Haram served as Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) of Handleman Company, a $1.3 billion distributor of media and entertainment products to more than 5,000 big box retail outlets in the U.S., Canada and the UK. In this capacity, he worked with a turnaround firm to sell the company’s various assets to competitors and financial sponsors.
Prior to assuming the CFO role, Mr. Haram was Senior Vice President, International at Handleman responsible for the UK and Canada operations, where he introduced new service offerings and expanded the company’s category management product set to include books and greeting cards.
Additional examples of Mr. Haram’s experience include leading the carve-out diligence of several hundred divested stores for a discount retailer across all business functions (front, back office and operations). He assisted the client post-signing to a successful close, designing the transition business model and the target operating model across the entire organization. Mr. Haram also led the carve-out, operations and IT diligence of several retail acquisitions ($500 million - $4 billion). For each of these, he provided diligence on all activities required to stand up the organization for back office and retail functions and identified sourcing opportunities and staffing efficiencies with an estimated significant run-rate EBITDA improvement.
In addition, Mr. Haram led the diligence and post-merger integration (operations, back office and IT) for several consumer packaged goods companies in highly competitive auctions, where he identified and delivered deal value capture opportunities in sourcing, logistics and distribution, SKU rationalization and field sales optimization.
Mr. Haram holds a B.S. in Computer Science from New York University (“NYU”), a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Stern School of Business at NYU.
