Marcus A. Derwin is a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting and is based in Sydney. 

A highly regarded restructuring practitioner and chief restructuring officer who provides strategic advice and interim executive capability to clients on complex informal restructuring and recapitalisation situations. Mr. Derwin has broad industry experience, across most sectors, including Financial services, Telecommunications, Resources, Agriculture and Manufacturing.

As a seasoned corporate executive and corporate finance advisor, Mr. Derwin brings more than 30 years of experience gained working across the globe, including advisory services, corporate executive and Board (both public and private) roles in the U.K., U.S. and Australia.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Derwin founded and managed RCubed group, a corporate advisory practice focused on interim executive restructuring roles, principally viable businesses in times of stress and/or crisis related circumstances. Primarily, these engagements were operational in nature, with significant stakeholder management, implementation and execution capability requirements.

In his corporate professional capacity, Mr. Derwin spent three years at NAB both in Australia and the U.S. as a Principal Advisor. He was also Director of Operations for the private capital division of AMP, including management of its global AU$2 billion Alternative Asset fund portfolio (encompassing direct investments, private equity, infrastructure and fund of funds investments) over five years, delivering a cumulative 20% IRR. In addition, he managed a AU$550 million LIC startup targeting public to private transactions for five years, as a non-executive Board Director and subsequently CEO.

Key recapitalisation engagements include:

  • Restructure and sale for AU$493 million of Australia’s leading beef producer, as an executive Board director and investor representative
  • Restructure and sale for AU$527 million of a listed gold/copper producer with extensive American (both North and South) interests, as an executive Board director and investor representative
  • Restructure and recapitalisation of a leading listed soft commodity processor and marketer, as Board advisor and CRO
  • Board advisory role to a major listed A-REIT which enabled a  AU$400 million tranche refinancing and subsequent recapitalisation of the listed Group
