Paul Baldwin is a Managing Director in the Tax Advisory Group within the Corporate Finance practice of FTI Consulting and is based in London. Mr. Baldwin has more than 15 years experience advising multi-national corporations on the tax implications of acquisitions, restructurings, divestments and financing transactions. He has experience in a number of sectors, including petrochemical, media and consumer products.
Mr. Baldwin has most recently undertaken structuring work for the disposals of a number of large UK based multinational groups in a number of different sectors including manufacturing, printing and marine electronics. Mr. Baldwin has previously advised on the UK tax implications of cross-border restructurings in order to facilitate refinancing and provide potential access to UK insolvency law. Over the last few years he has also had extensive experience of dealing with the UK tax affairs whilst in Administration of a number of domestic groups and UK sub-groups of multinational companies. He has overseen the pre-disposal restructuring and tax-free disposals of various businesses and assets, held detailed discussions with the UK tax authorities, and led the conclusion of complex compliance matters.
In addition to his restructuring work, Mr. Baldwin has undertaken due diligence and structuring work for global acquisitions by a number of overseas state petrochemical companies, together with post-acquisition restructuring. He advised on the $700 million acquisition of a UK based multi-national electronics marketing and distribution business by a $10 billion turnover US Fortune 500 electronic components group, and the combined group’s subsequent pan-European integration and restructuring. His previous mergers and acquisitions experience centered mainly on US based global advertising and media groups investing in UK and European assets.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Baldwin worked in the energy, chemicals and utilities tax practice at Ernst & Young and prior to that he worked in an international tax team at Arthur Andersen.
Mr. Baldwin holds a M.Eng. degree from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
