Scott Lipkin is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Brentwood, Tennessee. Dr. Lipkin is part of the Health Solutions practice and in the research and compliance group. Dr. Lipkin has over 25 years’ experience as a clinician and 21 years’ experience working in the human research protection and research compliance field. He focuses his practice in research compliance, research ethics, human subject protections, IRB operations and administration, scientific misconduct, conflicts of interest, research clinical operations, physician compensation, and research financial administration. Dr. Lipkin’s clients include academic medical centers, health systems, hospitals, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining FTI, Dr. Lipkin was a member of the Medical Staff of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) for 25 years. He first joined Lehigh Valley Podiatry Associates in 1989 as a medical and surgical podiatrist. In 2000, he was promoted to Chief of the Division of Podiatric Surgery and held that position for 10 years. He obtained certification with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in 1992 and has participated as Principal or Sub-Investigator on 14 clinical trials related to diabetic foot wounds and wound healing over a period of 15 years.
Dr. Lipkin was involved in human subject protections at LVHN for over 20 years, serving as an IRB member, IRB chair, and Director of the Research Participant Protection Office (RPPO). He created and implemented policies and lead LVHN through the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protections Program (AAHRPP) accreditation process. As part of this process, he successfully transitioned the IRB from a medical staff committee to an independent department reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. As RPPO Director, he designed and implemented policies and procedures for research conflict of interest, research compliance, quality improvement, community outreach, and education. Dr. Lipkin has been a site visitor since 2008 and a member of their Council of Accreditation since 2010.
In 2010, Dr. Lipkin transitioned from his clinical practice to serve full time in an administrative role, taking on the position of Chief of the newly created Network Office of Research and Innovation (NORI) at LVHN. In his new role, he was tasked with creating a centralized research office at LVHN. His achievements as NORI Chief included: Collaborating with LVPG to create compensation policies to award RVU credits for physicians who conduct research, creating standardized research clinical operations to assure compliance, developing professional budget and contract negotiation procedures, and developing a statistician and editing team to support residents, Medical Staff members, and other researchers at LVHN.
Dr. Lipkin holds his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from Temple University and his BS in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
