Steve Murphy is a Senior Advisor in the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting and based in Melbourne, Australia. Steve has over 25 years’ experience in reputation and crisis management as well as financial communications at both strategic and tactical levels for corporate and government.
Since joining FTI Consulting in 2008, Steve has provided strategic communications advice to executive management teams at some of Australia’s largest and most recognised companies including Telstra, Shell Australia, Woolworths , Red Bull, Caltex, Tabcorp and 7-Eleven.
He has provided crisis management strategy and tactics to a diverse range of organisations including SP Ausnet and Western Power as well as litigation support to local and international companies including German pharmaceutical Grunenthal.
Steve has also brought a wealth of Executive Government experience to the buy-side of some of Australia’s largest infrastructure privatisations including the AU$10 billion sale of NSW transmission business Transgrid; the NSW Port Consortium’s successful AU$5.1 billion acquisition of Ports Kembla and Botany and Q-Port Holdings acquisition of the Port of Brisbane.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting Steve was a member of the Australian team advising Rio Tinto on its AU$40 billion takeover of Alcan and the AU$20 billion sale of Coles Myer to Wesfarmers.
Prior to becoming Director of Communications and Strategy for former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, overseeing the AU$24 billion privatisation of Victoria’s gas and electricity assets, Steve was a career journalist.
