Todd Smith is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Denver. He is a member of the Telecom, Media and Technology (“TMT”) practice.

Mr. Smith has more than 10 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including significant merger and acquisition (“M&A”) planning and integration experience, in addition to business operations and finance. Mr. Smith is an expert in integration management office (“IMO”) leadership, organizational design, employee engagement, synergies achievement, sales force integration, enterprise portfolio management, customer relationship management (“CRM”) and all aspects of back office integration, including finance/accounting, real estate and information technology (“IT”) systems.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Smith was with Level 3 Communications. He led Level 3’s integration of tw Telecom, which was a transaction valued at around $7 billion, bringing tw Telecom’s deep and extensive North America metro network assets and product portfolio to Level 3’s customers. The planning phase of this transaction involved 14 functional teams and over 150 representatives from both companies, and resulted in a successful Day 1 and Day 100 execution. The overall integration plan consisted of one consolidated sales force, a single global set of products and one network and operational platform.

In addition to leading the tw Telecom integration, Mr. Smith was the integration leader of the Global Crossing transaction, which was valued at around $3 billion and comprised a global network footprint, providing service in five continents and a diversified customer base of wholesale, enterprise and government customers.

Prior to the Global Crossing acquisition, Mr. Smith led the Finance integration project management office (“PMO”), coordinating the planning and integration of Level 3 acquisitions such as WilTel, Progress Telecom, ICG Communications, Looking Glass, TelCove, Broadwing and Savvis Content Delivery Network. He structured the finance M&A activities in order to enable a repeatable and scalable process, spanning due diligence to integration execution, adherence to guiding principles, integration planning and overall project management, including establishing baseline plans and schedules and reporting key metrics and escalations.

In addition, Mr. Smith led a global business process team of 70 employees with a $9 million operating budget that spanned three regions (North America, Europe and Latin America). With a principal focus on cost reduction initiatives, he and his team were responsible for delivering enterprise initiative process design requirements, global process standards, continuous process improvement targets and business process maturity objectives.

While leading the business operations division, Mr. Smith also held the position of Chief of Staff, in a primary advisory role to the chief operating officer (“COO”) and executive leadership team. He fulfilled a consultative and special projects role within Level 3’s key operational functions (sales, marketing, IT, operations and finance). Additionally, Mr. Smith engaged in strategic organizational design efforts as part of the COO-initiated business restructuring activities.

Prior to joining Level 3, Mr. Smith was a Business Operations Manager within the Operations and Logistics team for the online division of at Target Corporation. He also worked in logistics management for several major companies, including Ball Corporation.

Mr. Smith holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a M.S. in Management and Organization from the University of Colorado, Denver. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt.
