Toni Vanderlaan is a Senior Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is based in Toronto. Ms. Vanderlaan has more than 12 years experience in restructuring and transaction advisory services. Her work includes assisting stakeholders of financially troubled companies, conducting business and lending due diligence reviews, developing and implementing reorganization strategies both in out-of-court restructurings and formal proceedings and managing divestiture processes on behalf of financially distressed organizations. She provides advice and support to lending institutions, corporate clients and legal counsel.

Ms. Vanderlaan has experience across a broad range of industries, including: aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul; oil and gas exploration and production; mining, metal production and extrusion; quick service restaurants; biopharmaceuticals; media; forestry; travel and tourism; manufacturing and telecommunications. Her experience ranges from private to public companies with an emphasis on monitoring assignments in multi-jurisdiction and cross-border situations under Chapter 11 and the Companies Creditor’s Arrangement Act (CCAA).

Ms. Vanderlaan has advised both debtor and creditors in distressed situations, conducted both buy-side and sell-side due diligence investigations and business reviews, analyzed business plans and financial forecasts and prepared financial analysis required to assist creditor in making complex financial decisions.

Recently, Ms. Vanderlaan has acted as Court appointed monitor of Aveos Fleet Performance in the province of Quebec, which required providing regular “viva voce” evidence before the Court and was called as a witness in the case of the Province of Quebec vs. Air Canada in respect of the closure of Aveos Fleet Performance.

Ms. Vanderlaan was also recently appointed to act as the information officer in the recognition proceedings for Hartford Computers.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Vanderlaan was a vice president in the Corporate Advisory and Restructuring practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers.  She has worked in Canada, the U.S., the UK, the Caribbean and Asia.

Ms. Vanderlaan holds an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto. She is a certified insolvency and restructuring professional and a chartered accountant. Ms. Vanderlaan is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. She is currently serving her final year in a 3 year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Turnaround Management Association’s Toronto chapter and was recently elected as treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.
