Mr. Cohen has represented both creditors and debtors in formal bankruptcy and out-of-court settlements. Activities performed in this area include analysis of cash flow projections and development of cash management programs, operational reviews and development of business/strategic plans, bankruptcy planning, negotiation of debtor-in-possession financing, assessment and development of asset sale/liquidation plans, determination of asset and enterprise valuations, facilitation and negotiation of asset sales in and out of bankruptcy, and negotiations with parties in interest. He has also led interim management engagements for companies in both the healthcare and manufacturing sectors and has served as trustee of several liquidating trusts.
Mr. Cohen has extensive experience representing various parties in interest in the healthcare arena, including the receivables and equipment financing, hospital, post-acute, physician practice management, ambulatory and medical supply sectors. Within the receivables and equipment financing sector Mr. Cohen represented the secured and unsecured creditors of National Century Financial Enterprises. Representative engagements in the hospital and post-acute sectors include Integrated Health Services, Senior Living Properties, New American Healthcare, Charter Behavioral, Alterra Healthcare and Centennial Healthcare. Representative engagements in the physician practice management sector include PhyCor, ProMedCo Management Company, Response Oncology and a leading single-specialty ENT PPM. Representative engagements in the medical supply sector include a distributor of respiratory equipment and devices and an international manufacturer of respiratory equipment and supplies.
In addition, Mr. Cohen has represented parties in interest in the manufacturing, technology, mining and distribution sectors. Representative engagements include Crown Simplimatic, a manufacturer of bottling and packaging systems; USA Floral, a floral importer/distributor; Washington Furniture Company, a manufacturer of home furnishings; a worldwide manufacturer of power sources for the technology and communications industries; an international provider of petroleum additives; a leading miner and supplier of bituminous coal and a leading manufacturer and distributor of products serving the travel goods industry.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Cohen was a partner with the U.S. division of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) Business Recovery Services practice. Prior to PwC, Mr. Cohen was senior vice president with Inova Health System, one of the nations leading integrated healthcare systems with net revenues in excess of $1.0 billion annually. During his 12-year tenure at Inova, he led the division responsible for the development and operation of Inova’s post-acute, ambulatory and behavioral services. During his career he has served as chief financial officer, chief operating officer, chief strategic planning and business development officer, president, director and advisor to companies in numerous industries. Mr. Cohen is a certified insolvency and restructuring advisor. |
