FTI Consulting Appoints Information Governance and Compliance Veteran to Technology Segment
Ms. Uhl brings more than 27 years of experience working in information governance and compliance development and management, including more than 10 years leading programs at Marathon Oil Corporation. She will be based in Houston, working closely with Senior Managing Director Jake Frazier, who leads the Technology segment’s Information Governance, Privacy & Security team.
In her new role, Ms. Uhl will assist clients — particularly those in the energy sector — on designing, implementing and enabling change management for information compliance, data privacy, data security and e-discovery programs to include refreshing their processes and technology. She will draw on experience in working across the Electronic Discovery Reference Model and Information Governance Reference Model and leading strategic initiatives to govern information assets within a company to offer clients innovative, proactive IG solutions.
“Data privacy requirements are becoming increasingly stringent around the world, and corporations are turning to IG to gain control of their processes and get their data houses in order,” Mr. Frazier said. “Deana’s unique combination of experience in e-discovery, compliance, data governance and the energy industry is a valuable addition to our team. I’m excited to welcome her and am looking forward to her contributions to our clients’ efforts to align their business, legal and compliance needs and establish IG programs.”
As part of the legal team’s senior leadership at Marathon Oil Corporation, Ms. Uhl served as an advisor and consultant to the C-suite in the design and change management of programs that enabled stronger and more efficient data management, data security and e-discovery. Her work involved facilitating discussions between IT, business and legal to create best-practice information governance and security processes. She also spent 16 years at Baker Botts LLP, where she managed a department of litigation support analysts across five domestic offices and one foreign office and worked in various litigation support and technology administration roles.
“Over the last two decades, I’ve seen e-discovery, legal hold, compliance and data privacy demands shift dramatically, leaving many organizations stuck trying to figure out how to successfully refresh their technologies and processes,” Ms. Uhl said. “Proactive information governance is the most cost-effective way for companies to address today’s challenges, but they often need the expertise and extra support to implement change. I’m honored to join FTI Technology’s team of experts and look forward to helping clients navigate and determine the best processes and technologies that fit their specific needs.”
