Global Solar Energy Successfully Sells 100% of the Shares to Hanergy Holding Group

FTI Consulting and FTI Capital Advisors (FTICA) were retained as the chief restructuring officer (CRO) and merger and acquisition (M&A) advisor on the sale of Global Solar Energy, the world’s leading manufacturer of Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) solar technology to Hanergy Holding Group Limited (Hanergy), a multinational clean-energy power generator. The sale, consisting of 100% of Global Solar Energy shares, involved a comprehensive, global effort to market Global Solar Energy to financial and strategic buyers with interest in the renewable energy sector. The result was a successful, going-concern sale, which maximizes shareholder return and preserves Global Solar Energy operations during a period of very challenging market conditions, in which many of its competitors have ceased operations.

Founded in 1996, Global Solar Energy is one of the few producers in the world able to manufacture flexible CIGS solar cells on a commercial scale. Its products are applied in a variety of areas, including integrated photovoltaic (BIPV), rooftop solar systems, electronic vehicles and other portable solar products.

Hanergy is a global clean-energy power generation company and the world’s largest thin-film PV company and solutions provider. Hanergy engages in the integration of the entire photovoltaic industry chain, possesses industry-leading CIGS thin-film PV technology and has the world’s largest production capacity of thin-film modules. Its business also covers hydropower and wind power.

FTI Consulting uniquely provided CRO and M&A advisory services. Chris LeWand, a senior managing director in the Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and FTICA, served as CRO and lead for the sale activities to provide an efficient, effective and comprehensive set of services to maximize the value of Global Solar Energy.
