Maiko Morikawa is a public affairs specialist and helps clients find solutions to complex challenges and provides advise to businesses on business strategies and reputation management. She has over 16 years of experience in corporate communications and public affairs. She specialises in public affairs, government relations, public policy, advocacy campaign, thought leadership, CSR/CSV and environmental/sustainability matters. Her industry expertise includes technology, financial services, healthcare, entertainment and hospitality.
Maiko has extensive experience both in-house, within agencies, as well as in the public sector. Maiko started her career at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications with consulting roles that focused on providing advise on policy and political issues to the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors.
Maiko leveraged her previous knowledge and experience later at a Japanese e-commerce leader Rakuten as the in-house public affairs supplier for public policy and government relations, specialising in technology policies and regulations for internet business. Maiko also led the advocacy campaign team of a Japanese economic association and organised industry campaigns to encourage entrepreneurship and innovative action in Japan.
Maiko’s communications expertise further expanded after she joined Weber Shandwick Japan, a global public relations and communications agency to lead the public affairs practice as Vice President. Maiko served clients such as government agencies, non-profit organisations, and companies in sectors including healthcare, financial services, technology, chemical, entertainment, and food & beverage. Maiko counseled them on public affairs and government relations, thought leadership, CSR/CSV, corporate communications, global communications, issues and crisis communications.
Maiko played a leading role at MetLife Japan, a global insurance company as the Executive Officer and Vice President, Government Relations. She identified priority issues, designed and implemented an advocacy strategy to influence government policies and regulations.
Born and educated in Japan, Maiko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Waseda University, Japan.
