Oscar Mascarenhas advises companies on all aspects of the energy transition, including decarbonization strategy, project origination, financial evaluation, concept selection, commercial design, partnering strategy and new business incubation. He has 20 years of experience across the energy sector (oil & gas, power, water and new energies) in major capital projects, new business and strategic innovation, working with C-suite executives on multi billion-dollar investment decisions.
Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Mascarenhas was a principal, advising global energy players and private equity on energy transition investments in renewables, CCUS, biofuels and hydrogen. Over a 16-year career at Exxon Mobil, he held roles in innovation management, technology scouting and venturing, new business development and opportunity management across the project lifecycle from origination to FID. He has extensive experience in managing the front end of major capital projects globally in the U.S., Canada, Middle East and Asia.
While at Exxon Mobil, Mr. Mascarenhas enabled the implementation of “decision quality” as a bedrock framework for opportunity management through the project lifecycle, and the integration of data analytics and digital tools to drive better decision making. He has worked to enhance organizational innovation, adopting methods such as design thinking and scenario analysis to help teams think outside the box and bring new ideas to value.
Prior to Exxon Mobil, Mr. Mascarenhas worked at the Global Climate and Energy Project at Stanford University with joint 2007 Nobel Laureate - IPCC member Dr. John Weyant and Dr. James Sweeney on the integrated assessment of technology options, focusing on CCUS and rooftop solar.
Mr. Mascarenhas has served as Chair (2019-2020) of mineral and renewable energy investments for the Stanford School of Earth Sciences PIF Fund (Executive Committee Member 2015-2020) and is a visiting lecturer at the department of Energy Resources Engineering at Stanford University.
