A high-profile research company retained FTI Consulting to investigate a possible insider threat and preserve evidence in the event of litigation related to the suspected employee.
Our Impact
- FTI Consulting’s thorough investigation alleviated the company’s current concerns of an active insider threat and preserved evidence that will assist the company in the event future evidence emerges that leads to legal action.
- Our experts leveraged relationships with law enforcement agencies to connect the client with the government’s national security apparatus so that the client can better protect its intellectual property.
- The client has also entered a master services agreement with FTI Consulting to enable timely and extensive review of data points in the event of a future insider threat.
Our Role
- FTI Consulting’s national security investigators with experience in nation-state espionage leveraged knowledge of foreign nations to find evidence of unauthorized access and external transfers of data.
- Our experts’ findings supported security and contractual violations by the suspected employee, legally justifying termination and setting the foundation for future legal action by the company.
- The team created a forensically sound copy of the evidence and the employee’s digital footprint, allowing data to be preserved, should it be needed for future litigation.
- FTI Consulting also enabled discussions with legal counsel, federal law enforcement and intelligence partners to assist with the investigation process.
