Alwin Magimay is a Senior Managing Director and serves as the EMEA Chief Digital Officer. He has over 25 years of experience utilizing leading-edge technology to build out and scale new business capabilities and leading digital and analytics initiatives. He has industry experience in financial services, utilities and oil and gas.
Alwin’s extensive experiences includes helping a large Telco design, build and launch a new mobile app store; helping a large Media company create a new ad-based revenue stream from a multi-device Internet TV proposition; helping a pay-TV provider drive value from a behavioural and targeted segment based analytics platform; helping a large UK retailer become more mobile; implementing a digital learning platform being used in over 200 schools; and creating a new digital organisation for a FTSE-listed organisation. More recently, Alwin led the creation of a new European digital bank and drove digital transformation initiatives in a variety of high-profile engagements, including helping a medical imaging equipment manufacturer with its growth strategy.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Alwin was a Partner at McKinsey, where he specialised in large-scale and complex digital business building programmes. He was responsible for McKinsey Digital Labs in the UK, looking after 47 talented designers, architects, developers and software engineers. Alwin pioneered the firm’s Design, Build, Operate and Transfer offering for new digital and analytics propositions, which has become an anchor for many new digital business building engagements.
Prior to McKinsey, Alwin helped establish two digital practices in the UK for KPMG and Accenture, architecting and building a new set of digital capabilities to help clients deal with and drive value from the digital disruptive forces of artificial intelligence, machine learning and big-data. He started his career at Andersen Consulting (the predecessor of Accenture) in Singapore, where he was one the founding members of their Media and Entertainment practice. As a result of his impact and expertise, he eventually led Accenture’s digital and data practices.
In 2013, Alwin architected and launched a new advanced analytics institute in conjunction with Imperial College London to drive new business insights and value from big-data. He also co-led the creation of Global Data Observatory, the world’s most advanced data visualisation capability, as well as the UK’s first M.Sc. in business analytics. Alwin is a visiting professor at Imperial College’s Business School and is a non-exec member of the Institute of Data Science, where he is helping to establish data science as a new discipline.
In July 2017, Alwin was appointed to the Board of SMART London, an advisory board to help the Mayor of London put digital and data at the heart of making the capital a better place to live, work and invest.
Alwin holds a B.Eng. in aeronautical engineering from Queen’s University in Belfast.
