About Matthew
Matthew Conway is a Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment with more than 28 years of experience working within the UK government and the Financial Services industry. Focusing extensively on public policy, regulation and public affairs, Matthew provides FTI Consulting’s UK and global clients with insights, advice and support on the fast-moving regulatory environment for financial services, working closely with the firm’s specialists in London, Brussels and Washington, D.C.
Most recently, Matthew was the Director of Strategic Policy at UK Finance, the trade body for banking and finance, where he was responsible for regulatory reform, diversity and inclusion, sustainability and major cross-cutting regulatory initiatives. This included policy development and advocacy informing HM Treasury’s Financial Services and Markets Bill as well as the Financial Conduct Authority’s (“FCA”) new Consumer Duty. He previously headed UK Finance’s strategy and public-affairs teams.
Preceding this role, Matthew led regulatory policy at Lloyds Banking Group, was a policy consultant at the FCA and led policy and public-affairs teams at Ofcom, developing and delivering its strategy for future use of the radio spectrum released by digital switchover.
Matthew started his career as a UK civil servant, working in a range of government departments. During this time, he led policy formulation and negotiations on the European Union’s regulatory framework for electronic communications, delivered the national strategy for school sport and represented UK interests in high-profile trade disputes.
