Michael Moran is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is a member of the Health Solutions practice. He has over 24 years of experience as an Administrator, Director, Consultant and COO. He has significantly increased EBITDA and operational efficiencies as well as developing governance models to drive physician integration and teamwork.
Mr. Moran has extensive experience developing organizational cultures driving employee engagement, quality care, patient safety and patient engagement. While serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Inova Health System, he oversaw all operations of the employed Inova Medical Group (IMG- 650+ providers, 1,900+ employees total, 100+ locations, $500M+ Gross Revenue/Year). He assisted with the recruitment of new providers and service line leaders and the acquisition of community-based practices.
Mr. Moran also participated in and help to lead the Senior Leadership Team for IMG, developing policies, procedures and driving strategic direction. Under his operational leadership, IMG’s EBITDA improved by $20M through focused benchmarking, standardization, optimization, efficiency and increased productivity of the clinics.
Previous to being COO of Inova Health System, Mr. Moran served as the Senior Director of Operations. He was responsible for operational oversight of: Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, OB/GYN, Woman’s Health, Breast Surgery, Endocrinology and Rheumatology. He led the financial and operational improvement of a key OBGYN location with a net improvement in one year of $800K and the financial and operational improvement of the Neurology Business unit with a net improvement in one year of $1.2M.
Prior to working with FTI Consulting, Mr. Moran was the Principal and Owner of a boutique healthcare consulting group that focused on supporting Ambulatory Physician Practice operations. His consulting group led the planning, development, operations and growth of a Spine/Pain Management practice, a Hospital Physician Enterprise in Central New Jersey, and a Hospital Urgent Care/Occupational Health Operation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Moran has helped develop, grow and optimize physician enterprises for four healthcare systems, numerous Independent Medical Groups and other healthcare services delivery providers.
Mr. Moran holds his B.S. in Sports Medicine/Physical Education from Canisius College, his M.S. in Sports Science from the University of Pittsburgh and his M.B.A. from Baldwin Wallace College. He is a member of the American Medical Group Association and the Medical Group Management Association.
