Michael Shryock is a Senior Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Atlanta. He is a member of the Construction Solutions practice within the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment.
Mr. Shryock has worked in the field of forensic accounting for 18 years. In that time, he has advised clients in matters involving the review of costs in construction delay disputes, fraud investigations, investigating financial motive for suspected arson, lost profits calculations, business income / interruption claims, and business valuations.
For the past 12 years, a substantial portion of Mr. Shryock’s practice has been devoted to the construction industry. For example, he has performed analyses of construction costs and quantities in cases of delay or other cost disputes, encompassing projects such as manufacturing facilities, airports, healthcare institutions, office/condominium towers, roads, and other commercial developments. Furthermore, he has performed forensic investigations of potentially fraudulent cost entries, billings, and/or payments to subs, on a wide variety of commercial construction projects and real estate developments. Mr. Shryock has also performed multiple business valuations for construction companies arising out of diminution of value claims, shareholder disputes, and insurance claims. Finally, he has handled a multitude of matters involving lost profits and soft cost damages arising out of Builder’s Risk claims and other construction-related disputes.
Mr. Shryock has provided deposition testimony in State and Federal Courts and trial testimony in State Court. He has presented to the legal, law enforcement, and insurance communities of Atlanta and surrounding regions on matters such as financial motive for arson claims, overview of business income claims, and insurable commercial insurance claims in natural disaster situations.
Mr. Shryock holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of South Carolina. He is a member and charter holder of the CFA Institute, a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and serves as Treasurer on the board for the Insurance Professionals of Atlanta. Finally, Mr. Shryock has assisted on three occasions at the International Association of Defense Counsel’s annual Trial Academy as a damages expert witness.
