Peter Turecek is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Risk & Investigations practice. Peter’s areas of emphasis include investigative due diligence, business intelligence, corporate contests and multinational litigation support investigations. He also conducts a variety of other investigations related to internal fraud, asset searches, employee integrity, independent fact finding, Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) and sanctions and securities fraud. Peter works for a variety of clients, including major financial institutions, private equity, law firms, corporations and high-net-worth individuals and family offices.
Recently, Peter worked for a major domestic energy producer suddenly facing a product contamination issue in which a vendor shipment had contaminated a storage facility and then a client shipment. He led a team conducting data analysis to review thousands of transport tickets, identify the various vendor supplier and transport companies, conduct backgrounds on the key players and significantly winnow the list of potential shipments. Following that, Peter and analysts conducted onsite field investigations, reversing latitude/longitude information from transport tickets and finding significant issues where some of the sites were empty land plots and, in at least two instances, waste recycling facilities that were the origination of shipments of “clean” product to the client.
When competitors claimed personal attribution for key investment activity decisions at a major financial institution client, Peter conducted a global independent assessment regarding the portfolio of investments to determine the actual and appropriate attribution of the key individuals who worked on various aspects of each investment, including the sourcing of the investment opportunities, management of the assets, board assignments and exit work.
Peter began his career more than 26 years ago as a field research associate at Kroll Associates and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Managing Director, including interim positions heading Kroll’s Boston and Chicago offices. He then moved to Control Risks to work in their Business Intelligence and Due Diligence North America Practice.
Peter holds an M.A. in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University and a B.A. in Political Science from Drew University. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner. He is a member of Business Executives for National Security, the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and The Wings Club. An instrument-rated private pilot with more than 1,100 hours, Peter additionally pursues an aviation industry niche and has conducted due diligence and litigation investigations on behalf of aviation industry clients. He volunteers his piloting time with missions for animal rescue flights with Pilots N Paws as well as the Veterans Airlift Command.
