Renfeng Zhao has nearly 25 years of experience in financial journalism and cross-border strategic counselling for both Chinese and international companies. He has a deep understanding of how the interests of corporate, financial, political and societal audiences intersect to compete and cooperate within a global context, and how best to create value through communications.
Renfeng has global communications experience in reputation management, government and regulatory affairs, crisis and issues management, and sustainability programme development and execution. He specialises in technology, healthcare, energy and financial services sectors.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Renfeng was a Partner at two other communications agencies. He also spent almost 10 years at China Daily Newspaper Group.
Renfeng advises a variety of world-leading companies and government organisations on international engagement and communications strategies in China and abroad. His key projects included China’s first fund launch in Europe, China’s largest trade dispute with the EU over solar products and China’s first acquisition of an energy transmission asset in Europe.
Renfeng is a Visiting Professor of the School of International Affairs at China Renmin University. He was a Research Fellow with the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and a visiting scholar at the University of Hawaii/East-West Center. Renfeng was awarded the EU Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to complete a double Masters degree programme at three leading universities in Europe and the United Kingdom. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Nankai University in China. He has worked in five countries in China, United States, United Kingdom, Denmark and the Netherlands.
