Ben Backwell is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in London. Ben is in the Energy practice in the Strategic Communications and Economic and Financial (EFC) segments.

Ben has more than 20 years' experience in both the traditional and renewable energy sectors. He was Editor in Chief of wind and solar industry news provider Recharge, where he led the way in covering large wind and solar developers, utilities, equipment suppliers and investors, and created and convened a CEO level thought leadership network. He is a frequent speaker and moderator at international conferences and has contributed to a wide range of publications.

Before getting involved in the renewable energy industry, Ben worked as a journalist and analyst covering energy markets and economic policy for companies including Dow Jones, Bridge Information Systems and Argus Media, in countries such as Venezuela, the US, Brazil and Argentina. He also worked as a corporate analyst covering the major international oil and gas companies and is a former OPEC correspondent.

Prior to joining FTI, Ben worked as a consultant in the renewables sector, most recently creating the Solution Wind global awareness campaign for the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) in the run up to the COP21 climate negotiations in Paris.

A leading commentator and strategist in the renewable energy industry, Ben helps clients across the power sector to position themselves in a rapidly changing market and technology landscape.
