Chris Tennenbaum is a Managing Director in the Turnaround & Restructuring practice providing strategic, operational and restructuring advisory services to companies both inside and outside formal bankruptcy proceedings. He has more than eight years of experience in providing financial advisory services focused on operational and financial improvement and reorganization. Mr. Tennenbaum has industry expertise in media and entertainment, retail, equipment rentals, real estate, municipalities, loan servicing and manufacturing.
Mr. Tennenbaum has worked with numerous companies in the media, entertainment, technology, and gaming industries, covering performance improvement, business plan development, due diligence, mergers and acquisition advisory, expert witness testimony and business transformation.
Recently, Mr. Tennenbaum advised Fuse Media, a national operator of two pay television networks, on its strategic options and restructuring negotiations. Facing headwinds in the pay television industry, Mr. Tennenbaum advised Fuse Media on strategic growth options, business plan projections, industry forecasts, lender negotiations, liability management, cash flow projections, bankruptcy preparations, and lender reporting packages. Fuse Media filed a prepackaged Chapter 11 plan with consent from over 90% of noteholders and emerged from Chapter 11 within 75 days of the petition date.
Mr. Tennenbaum also advised Hastings Entertainment, a regional retailer of entertainment products with over 125 stores nationwide, on its Chapter 11 proceedings which ultimately resulted in the sale of assets under section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Facing declines in year over year sales and dwindling liquidity, Mr. Tennenbaum advised Hastings on cash and vendor management, cash flow projections, bankruptcy preparation, negotiations with key stakeholders, buyer diligence, sale negotiations and lender reporting packages.
Strategic advisory and performance improvement services Mr. Tennenbaum has provided include a business plan review and transformation planning for a major U.S. film studio; a comprehensive performance improvement assessment for a visual effects studio; digital strategy assessment for an integrated traditional media business; and multiple buy-side diligence engagements for media and entertainment businesses.
Mr. Tennenbaum holds a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Claremont McKenna College. He is a Certified Insolvency Restructuring Advisor. Mr. Tennenbaum serves as a board member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Southern California chapter and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and Association for Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors
