David Rush is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Houston. Mr. Rush is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment. He has more than 19 years of corporate recovery and financial advisory experience and has held several interim management roles, including Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and other senior finance positions. His industry experience includes oilfield services, exploration and production, manufacturing, consumer/packaged goods, power, financial services, shipping and retail.
Mr. Rush’s experience includes forecast development, liquidity and performance improvement, business plan analysis, collateral evaluation and recovery assessment. In addition, he has advised clients with asset sales, debtor-in-possession and out-of-court financings, covenant negotiations and contingency planning. Mr. Rush has represented private and public companies, lenders, creditor committees and other parties in interest.
Mr. Rush was recently the Chief Restructuring Officer of ExGen Texas Power, a subsidiary of Exelon Corp. and owner of five natural gas power plants. He also served as the Chief Restructuring Officer of Juniper GTL, a natural gas-to-liquids company during its bankruptcy and sales process. Prior to that, he served as the interim Chief Financial Officer of Surefire Industries, a Houston-based oil and gas equipment manufacturer and service provider.
Mr. Rush also served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Hostess Brands, a $2.5 billion revenue wholesale bakery and distribution company. In this capacity, he oversaw the Chapter 11 process and was responsible for developing liquidity forecasts, completing pre-petition and post-petition financing transactions, negotiating with stakeholders and assisting with numerous 363 asset sales. Mr. Rush has testified on various matters, including debtor-in-possession financings, sales proceedings, liquidation analyses, cash collateral disputes, liquidity forecasts, wind down plans and recovery actions.
Other notable engagements include Breitburn Energy, RockPile Energy, Enron, Fremont Investment & Loan, Intelsat, Paragon Offshore, Sparrows Group, Vantage Drilling, Hercules Offshore, Northstar Offshore, Larchmont Resources, BPZ Resources, Tri-Union Development, Texas Petrochemicals, Orion Refining, Link Energy, Ignite Restaurant Group, Bombay Company, Weiner’s Stores, TransCom USA, Tokheim and American Eco.
Mr. Rush received the Houston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award and the M&A Advisor’s 40 under 40 award. In addition, he received multiple awards for the work performed on Hostess Brands, including the M&A Turnaround Award for Distressed M&A Deal of the Year (over $1 billion) and the D CEO Mergers & Acquisitions Large Deal of the Year. In 2017, he received M&A Advisor’s Energy Deal of the Year (under $100 million) and the Turnaround Management Association’s Transaction of the Year for Juniper GTL.
Mr. Rush holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Houston and an M.B.A. from Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. He is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Turnaround Professional. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Association of Corporate Growth, the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors and serves on the Board of Directors for the Houston Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
