Gregory Phelps is a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Technology practice based in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Phelps has over 25 years of professional experience providing electronic discovery and litigation consulting services to clients in a variety of industries. He specializes in assisting legal counsel with large complex legal matters, including governmental inquiries, litigations and cross-border investigations.
In his current role, Mr. Phelps works directly with clients to deliver comprehensive electronic discovery, from initial project planning through the completion of matters, with an emphasis on efficiency. Most notably in this capacity, Mr. Phelps assisted in the e-discovery process for a large global automotive manufacturer. The project included managing geographically dispersed review teams consisting of in-house and out-sourced contract reviewers. On behalf of the client, Mr. Phelps helped to navigate multiple investigations from governmental agencies as well as resulting litigation.
Additionally, Mr. Phelps’ leverages his financial expertise to advise upon fraud investigation engagements that include internal investigations on behalf of Board of Directors, Audit Committees, General Counsel, and non-management equity partners. One of his most significant internal investigations involved an SEC registrant whose restatement exceeded $100 million related to the company’s stock option granting procedures. On this engagement, Mr. Phelps worked directly with outside counsel for the Special Committee of the Board of Directors and made presentations on behalf of the company to the Department of Justice (“DOJ”), SEC, and the company’s auditors.
Mr. Phelps’ advisory experiences include performing damage analysis involving lost sales, incremental profits and business interruption. Industries he has worked in include computer software, financial services, gaming, automotive, health care, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail and non-profit administration. One of his most notable cases involved a recovery of over $200 million in a breach of contract lawsuit against the US government on behalf of a failed savings and loan.
Mr. Phelps’ prior work experience includes being a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Forensic & Litigation Consulting practice and a Director in the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Dispute Analysis and Investigations practice.
