Joe Fan

Joe Fan is a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting, based in Shanghai. Mr. Fan has more than 16 years of consulting experience in Greater China, specializing in transaction advisory, interim management and corporate restructuring. His experience includes advising on due diligence, valuation, operational improvement, debt restructuring, compliance and forensic accounting. Mr. Fan has worked in a variety of industries, including furniture, renewable energy, textiles and leasing.

Mr. Fan has undertaken business improvement assignments and interim senior executive roles to retain and increase the value of companies facing challenging circumstances. During his seven-month tenure as the interim general manager of a plastic textile manufacturer, Mr. Fan optimized production resources to successfully fulfill peak season orders, identified and fixed the weak link of the management team and started initiatives to upgrade the facilities. In a recent assignment, he advised a global environmental technology company on restructuring its China business, including China market strategy, leadership restructuring and supply chain strategy, which involved a compliance review of product export and import.

As the interim CFO of a renewable energy company, Mr. Fan managed the financial reporting and analysis, treasury and control functions, and at the same time negotiated the sale of the entire shareholdings to maximize the returns to the investors. He has led a wide variety of due diligence engagements where he identified value and critical areas of risk for investors prior to their investment decisions on Chinese or other international targets. In many assignments, Mr. Fan successfully discovered related parties in disguise, sham customers, accounting irregularities and abnormal working capital movements and assisted clients in mitigating the associated risks.

Mr. Fan was involved in several large liquidation and debt restructuring assignments in China, including the liquidation of Asia Aluminum, the then-largest aluminum extrusion business in the country, and the restructuring of CIT Finance and Leasing Corporation (“PRC”), the subsidiary of a leading finance and leasing provider in the United States. Mr. Fan led the analysis of the return and recovery to stakeholders under various scenarios in order to facilitate the restructuring plan.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Fan worked for KPMG in its financial advisory division and was responsible for corporate recovery services. Mr. Fan holds an M.B.A. from New York University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) Charterholder.
