Mark S. Halpern

Mark S. Halpern is a member of the Private Client Advisory group. Mr. Halpern has more than 35 years of federal and state tax experience advising owners of closely held businesses, family offices and high-net-worth individuals in minimizing their tax liabilities while developing strategies to achieve their business and personal objectives.

Mr. Halpern has successfully represented numerous clients under audit by the Internal Revenue Service. He has also successfully represented clients under residency audit by various states. In addition to representing clients, he has worked with clients to assist them in reducing their potential estate tax by creating and implementing family gifting programs during their lifetimes. Finally, Mr. Halpern has worked with numerous attorneys, supporting them and their clients during litigation.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Halpern was Tax Director at J.H. Cohn in New York where he was responsible for a wide range of federal, state and international tax issues, including the review of individual, partnership, corporate, fiduciary, foundation and pension tax returns. Prior to that, he was Director of Taxation at Lazar Levine & Felix where he was responsible for, among other things, reviewing tax returns and representing clients under federal and state audits. He was also a Tax Director at Berdon LLP and has held management positions at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and U.S. Trust Company of New York.
