Michael Tucker is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Phoenix. He is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Mr. Tucker has more than 30 years of experience representing companies, creditors and parties of interest in restructuring and operational improvement situations (formal bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings). These services have included development and implementation of turnaround plans, development and review of business plans including strategic realignment of business units, identification and assistance with selling of business units, development and implementation of cash management programs, operational and financial reporting, debt restructuring and negotiations with parties in interest. Mr. Tucker has been a management team member, a Chapter 11 trustee and a Plan Administrator.
Mr. Tucker has assisted businesses and law firms in dispute and litigation matters. These services have included consulting on economic damages and financial and forensic issues, antitrust, breach of contract and warranty, business interruption, dealer termination, fraud investigations, accountants’ malpractice, lender liability, lost profits and business valuations.
A sampling of Mr. Tucker’s broad industry experience includes retail, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, financial services, restaurant, real estate, gaming and transportation.
Mr. Tucker’s company-side work includes Martifer Solar, the U.S. division of an international solar construction company where he acted as the Chief Restructuring Officer (“CRO”) and eventually interim CEO; Fuhu Inc., a leading children’s software maker and tablet company; Western Funding, a subprime auto loan company where he was the investment banker and sold the portfolio; Syntax Brillian, the manufacturer of Olevia TV and Vivitar cameras where he acted as assistant CRO; Hastings Entertainment, a 130 store retailer of multimedia entertainment and related products; several home and business alarm/security providers, including a top 10 provider; a furniture manufacturer; several casinos in Nevada; a real estate lender that serviced $900+ million loan portfolio; Styling Technology Corporation, a beauty products distributor; MicroAge, a $6 billion computer distributor and integrator and Megafoods Stores, Inc., a supermarket chain with stores in Texas and Arizona.
Mr. Tucker’s work for secured lenders and bondholders includes a waste disposal services provider; a non-profit entity with 14 Arizona locations; a commercial real estate investment fund that owned more than 25 office buildings; an Arizona supermarket chain; two large Westin resorts; a 50 store fast-food chain; a casino; several franchise borrowers in the restaurant and convenience store industries with some operating several hundred units; a company engaged in design, manufacture and marketing of furniture lines for food service, office, hospitality, healthcare and education markets with international manufacturing; and UDC Homes, a regional home builder.
Mr. Tucker began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”). In 2002, FTI Consulting acquired PwC’s Business Recovery Services practice, where Mr. Tucker was a partner.
Mr. Tucker holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He is also certified in financial forensics. In addition, Mr. Tucker is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors, the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the National Association of Fraud Examiners and the Turnaround Management Association. He is a Certified Turnaround Professional.
