Michael Stubbs is a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment and is based in Chicago. Mr. Stubbs is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified in Financial Forensics by the AICPA. Mr. Stubbs has ten years of professional experience in leading teams in intellectual property disputes, litigation damages analyses, forensic accounting investigations, and litigation consulting engagements.

Mr. Stubbs has testified as an expert witness in a breach of contract and fraud action in the construction industry. Mr. Stubbs calculated damages arising from unsupported and contractually inappropriate billings, cost to remediate structural issues, excess cost to complete, diminution of value, and prejudgment interest.
Mr. Stubbs has managed teams in the performance of numerous lost profits, reasonable royalty, and other intellectual property damages calculations across the medical device, handheld device, electronics, satellite communications, pharmaceutical, commercial printing, retail software, agriculture, and automotive industries.
Mr. Stubbs has managed teams in the performance of lost profits, disgorgement, and unjust enrichment damages calculations for breach of contract, breach of NDA, breach of implied covenants, theft of trade secrets, Lanham Act violations, and trademark infringement in the biomedical, medical device and communications industries. In one such engagement, Mr. Stubbs calculated breach of contract and fraud damages arising from millions of knowingly unpaid royalties pursuant to a license agreement covering biomedical technology, and deficient disclosure of information during contract amendment negotiations.
Mr. Stubbs has performed a forensic accounting investigation of asset transfers by high-wealth judgment debtors on behalf of one of the largest banking institutions in the United States. Work included review and analysis of thousands of documents produced by judgment debtors, their family members, and 20+ affiliate businesses; forensic analysis of banking records; tracing millions of dollars transferred to international accounts; analysis of asset transfers and loan activities; and identification of sources and uses of funds.
Mr. Stubbs has assisted in complex, multi-million dollar post-acquisition disputes in the construction and telecommunications industries. Each of these engagements included the creation and manipulation of complex potential lost profits damages models.
Mr. Stubbs managed a fraud investigation at a regional bank related to an employee’s use of fraudulent credit cards. Mr. Stubbs traced cash advances and other transactions from the fraudulent credit cards to their potential end use, and he reviewed contemporaneous documentation that was submitted to bank management during regular business reviews.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Stubbs worked at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP in its Forensic & Dispute Services practice from 2008 to 2012.
