About Michael
Michael Monaco is a Senior Advisor at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. He is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Mr. Monaco has more than 30 years of experience in finance and management. He has served as interim management and chief restructuring officer to distressed companies; assisted clients in cost reduction and cash flow improvement initiatives; assisted clients in structuring, evaluating and obtaining financing; acted as financial advisor to boards of directors and/or principal shareholders; and assisted clients in the development of strategic and business plans. Mr. Monaco’s industry experience includes financial services, transportation, healthcare, telecommunications, entertainment, manufacturing and retail.
A representative list of Mr. Monaco’s clients include Archstone, Centennial Healthcare, Las Vegas Monorail, Linens-n-Things, Loral Space & Communications, Milacron, Nextstage, Oberon Media, OMGroup, Outsource Services Group, Preferred Meals, RoadLink, SP Fiber, an undisclosed oil and gas field service provider, US Dry Van Logistics, Veritrans Specialty Vehicles Group and Xiotech. Mr. Monaco joined FTI Consulting with its acquisition of the CDG Group, where he served as chief restructuring officer for numerous corporations in diverse domestic and international industries. He also advised lenders, creditors, corporate boards and equity sponsors on both operational and financial issues affecting their interests.
Prior to joining CDG, Mr. Monaco also served as Vice Chairman, Chief Financial Officer and a Director of Cendant Corporation, as well as Chief Executive Officer of the Company’s Direct Marketing Division.
Mr. Monaco served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the American Express Company. As a member of the Policy and Planning Committee, he played a key leadership role in all aspects of development of the Company’s strategic plan and its execution, including leading the reorganization of the company around its core travel and leisure businesses and divesting its Shearson brokerage unit and Lehman Brothers investment banking business.
Through his leadership, Mr. Monaco identified, developed and executed numerous strategic plans to build and enhance shareholder value.
Mr. Monaco holds a B.S. from Villanova University, an M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and completed the Columbia University Executive Management Program. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts. Mr. Monaco has served on the board of directors of a number of public and private companies. He currently serves on the Board of Encore Capital Group, Inc. and is the Chairman of the Audit Committee. He is an advisor to Wake Forest University’s Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship.
