Mohan V. Kirtane

Mohan V. Kirtane is a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is based in Brentwood. Mr. Kirtane is a member of the FTI Consulting Healthcare Solutions group. He leads performance improvement and turnaround initiatives, often in the chief restructuring officer (CRO) role. Mr. Kirtane has 30 years of experience in engineering and healthcare management and has worked with a wide variety of clients, from large academic teaching hospitals to community hospitals. His expertise includes hospital operations and analysis; productivity clinical resource management; strategic planning; market analysis; administrative restructuring and medical staff relationship development.

Most recently, Mr. Kirtane served as CRO for a large, county-sponsored, safety net multihospital system in the Washington, D.C. area. As CRO, he coordinated the implementation of a $20 million EBIDA improvement plan. Prior to that, Mr. Kirtane served as CRO for a turnaround management project at a multihospital system in east Tennessee and accomplished an EBIDA improvement of over $15 million.

As CRO for a Boston-area hospital, Mr. Kirtane coordinated a $14 million EBIDA improvement plan involving changing the service mix, improving productivity, renegotiating managed care contracts and working with physician leadership to introduce clinical resource management. He has conducted many detailed operational assessments of financially troubled hospitals, contributing to successful turnarounds.

Mr. Kirtane’s healthcare career includes pioneering work in the application of industrial engineering techniques in large, university-affiliated hospitals. He was responsible for the construction of a new 350-bed replacement hospital, as well as development and construction of a 500,000-square-foot medical office building with a full-service diagnostic facility and ambulatory surgery center. Mr. Kirtane’s hospital operations experience includes senior management positions in a 570-bed university-affiliated teaching hospital.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2005, Mr. Kirtane had been with Cambio Health Solutions since 2001. Previously, he was president and founder of Franklin Healthcare Consulting, held various senior management positions at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville and served as vice president of operations at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Mr. Kirtane holds an M.A. in management from the University of Oklahoma, an M.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.
