Pete Smidt specializes in assisting private equity and corporate clients throughout the deal continuum. Mr. Smidt has over 25 years of experience advising performing and under-performing clients ranging from $25 million to over $30 billion in revenue. He has industry experience in the automotive, aerospace and defense, consumer products and general manufacturing sectors.
Mr. Smidt’s engagements have involved clients throughout all aspects of the capital structure, including debt and equity. His engagements have included business assessments, financial, operational, and strategic due diligence, in- and out-of-court restructurings, contract structuring and negotiations and transition planning.
In addition, Mr. Smidt has been instrumental in helping his clients achieve or exceed their investment returns through value creation ideas. Those ideas include: part profitability and SKU rationalization, customer negotiations, identification of profit enhancing actions through internal and external benchmarking, and helping drive strategy through acquisitions and divestitures to strengthen product portfolios.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Smidt developed and was the Practice Group Leader of the Transaction Services and Performance Improvement practice at Conway MacKenzie, Inc. (“Conway”).
Prior to joining Conway, Mr. Smidt served as the Chief Financial Officer of Plastech Engineered Products (“Plastech”), a $1.5 billion, minority-owned, Tier 1 automotive supplier. While at Plastech, he helped lead the restructuring of the company in bankruptcy and ultimately the divesture of its key business units through a series of 363 sales to its lenders and strategic investors.
Prior to Plastech, Mr. Smidt was a Director in the Transaction services group at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”), where he served the firms largest private equity and corporate clients. He also was a frequent instructor for sell-side due diligence for PwC and led many of PwC’s large sell-side engagements. Prior to PwC, Mr. Smidt worked at Deloitte in its Assurance practice, serving both automotive and aerospace and defense clients.
