Tim McDonagh is a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment. He has over 15 years of experience assisting clients across a variety of industries in developing transformation and business plans; developing cost reduction strategies; negotiating with stakeholders; driving the process to sell businesses or underperforming assets and secure financing; negotiating critical supplier contracts; and designing and implementing working capital management initiatives.

Mr. McDonagh specializes in serving as a trusted advisor to C-suites and Boards of Directors in complex, high-stake turnarounds. He has a track record of success in managing multiple constituencies and driving results in the most difficult situations.

Mr. McDonagh served as overall engagement lead to Southeastern Grocers during their recent restructuring. In addition to reducing debt levels by $600 million during the restructuring, the company also improved profitability by closing two distribution centers, negotiating with landlords for rent concessions, reducing overhead, and optimizing the store footprint.

Mr. McDonagh led FTI Consulting’s Aeropostale engagement, which was awarded Turnaround of the Year: Mega Company from the Turnaround Management Association, based on the successful sale to a consortium led by Authentic Brands, Simon Property Group and General Growth Properties. Mr. McDonagh worked with the company to create a turnaround plan incorporating SG&A reductions, closure of ~25% of stores and exit of the PS brand, rent reductions, and improved performance through a company developed two-store format.

Mr. McDonagh has also advised on significant other major retail engagements, including The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (“A&P”), The Children’s Place, RadioShack, Circuit City and a $300 million luxury retailer.

Many of Mr. McDonagh’s engagements have won awards from the Turnaround Management Association, M&A Advisor, Association of Management Consulting Firms, and others. In 2018, Mr. McDonagh was selected by the American Bankruptcy Institute as one of the 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders in Insolvency.

Additional large and high-profile engagements include Delphi Corporation, LyondellBasell, CIT Group, Residential Capital, Vertis Communications, a $6 billion media company, The Puerto Rico Electrical Power Authority, and Eastman Kodak Company.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. McDonagh served in the U.S. Peace Corps.
