William McManus is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. He is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Mr. McManus has more than 30 years of senior financial, operational and consulting experience in turnaround and restructuring environments. He is adept at quickly assessing operational strengths and weaknesses, and developing and implementing turnaround plans that result in increased shareholder value.
Mr. McManus has successfully motivated and directed teams through all aspects of financial and operational restructurings. He has served in senior management positions in a variety of industries, including automotive, media, publishing, home furnishing, consumer goods, packaging, forest products, capital equipment, for-profit education, oil field services, technology, home construction and healthcare. Mr. McManus has led numerous engagements, serving as interim management for distressed companies, developing and implementing strategic plans, identifying cost reduction and cash flow improvement initiatives, assisting in debt restructure and raising equity capital and serving on numerous corporate and governmental boards.
In particular, Mr. McManus’s home furnishing experience includes acting as interim Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) to evaluate the viability of a $300 million multinational business in the flooring sector with $175 million in senior and subordinated debt. He also successfully sold U.S. Carpet and Yarn Facilities and entered into a long-term supply agreement for the supply of raw materials. He streamlined remaining operations, working with production and scheduling to understand the product line cost characteristics and impact on machine time, and factored these into their pricing formulas. The improvement in cash flow allowed for the full repayment of both senior and subordinated debt.

Mr. McManus joined FTI Consulting with its acquisition of CDG Group, where he was a Managing Director. Prior to that, he worked at Horizon Management as Managing Director specializing in crisis and interim management. Serving as Interim CFO, he successfully restructured $175 million of senior and subordinated debt while preserving the family shareholder's position through operational cost reductions, asset sales and refinancing. Mr. McManus also has worked as an independent consultant, where he held positions in a number of assignments, including CFO, chief restructuring officer and chief executive officer. He was the CFO of C&M Holdings, Inc., a home furnishing and carpet company. In addition, he has worked with private equity firms in advisory capacities.
Mr. McManus holds a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. He is an experienced board member.
